Partners

Jake Collective has announced initial partnerships, each a comprehensive, multi-year effort.

  • Jake Collective’s partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will utilize the AFSP’s deep organizational knowledge and national convening power in academic, clinical, and institutional spaces to identify critical gaps in risk identification, research, and resources, and will meet key opportunities with direct funding. The partnership will aim to contribute robust data and develop clinical knowledge to confront the urgent and often overlooked suicide risk among young people whose cognitive differences influence brain function, decision-making, impulse control, emotional regulation, and sensitivity to rejection.

About American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a loss. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health through public education and community programs, develops suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and provides support for those affected by suicide.

  • The Jed Foundation (JED) and the Jake Collective are collaborating to develop a comprehensive framework specifically designed for pre-K to 12 schools, and a second framework for institutions of higher education, aimed to improve wellbeing and prevent suicide among students who think, feel, and learn differently. This partnership will draw on JED's robust frameworks that integrate research, expert insights, innovation, and extensive outreach, and on the organization’s long experience reaching young people in school, on campus, and within their communities.

    About The Jed Foundation

The Jed Foundation is a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults, giving them the skills and support they need to thrive.

In addition to the Jake Collective’s initial partnerships, the Jake Foundation has initiated a series of grants, including the following:

  • The Purpose Science and innovation Exchange (PSiX) at Cornell Human Ecology brings together the scientific research and lived experience of purpose to improve mental health and wellbeing. Together with the Purpose Commons, PSiX unites researchers, community organizations and policymakers to develop evidence-backed solutions while deepening our understanding of purpose as a transformative force in people’s lives. In 2026 PSiX will launch the National Youth Purpose Survey, which will offer critical insights into how purpose corresponds with wellbeing. It will also help identify new thematic research ideas and inform policies that can help young people thrive.

Jake Foundation will support a dedicated postdoctoral research position, a faculty research fellowship, and project support to advance the work of PSiX.

  • Jake Foundation is funding research at Weill Cornell Medicine’s Precision Psychiatry Program. Led by Dr. Conor Liston, the Precision Psychiatry Program leverages mechanistic insights to develop new treatments and diagnostic tools informed by biology, not just by clinical serendipity. Their work builds on discoveries showing that depression, impulsivity, and other symptoms aren’t driven solely by psychological factors or simple neurochemical imbalances, but by complex patterns of dysfunction within the brain circuits that regulate mood, decision-making, and behavior.

To create fundamentally new treatments that act rapidly to relieve symptoms for patients in crisis, the team applies a mechanistic neurobiological framework to understand how the brain supports cognitive flexibility, impulse control, and mood regulation. They are also developing biologically anchored diagnostic tools to detect and predict mood symptoms and to better match patients with the most effective existing treatments.

We are proud to be advocating on behalf of powerful legislation to support young people and mental health. Our work includes:

  • Among our first efforts in advocating for stronger mental health support is our championing of New York joining the 43 other states and counting that have signed on to the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact, PSYPACT, which facilitates the practice of telepsychology and the temporary in-person, face-to-face practice of psychology across state lines, thus permitting young people who travel for college or other work or educational opportunities to benefit from continuity of mental health care.

In our first year of advocacy, and in partnership with committed legislators and key stakeholders, PSYPACT saw its first significant movement in New York in more than 50 years—proof that thoughtful solutions can advance when a multitude of communities throughout the state recognize action to be imperative.
